Find out where you can be of the most help and jump right in. Sometimes you might be the only person working on your particular project. You will have to decide what to do and how to do it. While our ABV Directors and local staff are a great resource for getting ideas and talking about your plans, you shouldn't be surprised when they leave the big decisions up to you. Successful ABV Volunteers all have one thing in common: they take advantage of this freedom to design really excellent projects or manage existing ones and are capable of working hard without a great deal of supervision.

Environmental Program:

Our partner organization in San Miguel Dueñas is a macadamia farm that is very active in environmental protection and reforestation projects. The Macadamia tree is native only to the north coast of Australia and has come to Central America via Hawaii and California. The farm has very successfully pioneered the cultivation of macadamia trees that are adapted to the climate of Central America and has donated more than 350,000 seedlings to reforestation projects in Guatemala and Honduras.

Volunteers are needed to help plant and care for the trees and harvest and process the Macadamia nuts. The farm also needs volunteers to guide groups of visitors who visit from nearby Antigua or other parts of the country.
