Volunteer Nepal

1- How were the local ABV Coordinator and the support provided in-country?
The house "sisters" were amazing coordinators and provided much needed supporting in-country. They were absolutely amazing in every way.

2- What was the most surprising thing you experienced?
The most surprising thing I experienced was how the functioning of a society Nepal was despite their economic stance. The people of this country are truly remarkable and I loved being immersed in their culture.

3- What was most difficult to experience?
The most difficult thing experienced was adapting to the different culture and time standards. I found it anxious at first to accept the slow-paced lifestyle in comparison to my everyday lifestyle at home. However, it has also been my favorite thing that I have learned from the experience and will take with me.

4- Any tips for future volunteers… (Clothing, travel, personal items, donations)
A. Bring clothes/gifts for the house "sisters". They deserve it! B. Travel every chance you get. There are so many things to see and experience outside of Kathmandu. C. Linen/cotton pants are key.

5- Personal Paragraph (ABV Program Testimonial):
Other things volunteers should know about the pre-med/pre-nurse program is the hospital conditions. I think it will help future volunteers to understand their position as shadowing other doctors/nursing.

6- How would you describe your accommodation, meals, security (e: host family, on-site, shared)
My experience in Nepal has brought such a different perspective on life than I had to go into this situation. Between the people, I met along the way, the beautiful scenery, and the basic life of the Nepalese I was truly moved on how functioning their society is despite its economic shortcomings. I have learned to enjoy the present and have found ways to minimize small stressors in life. Going through this program offered a safe and interactive home to fully enjoy the culture, lifestyle, food, and people. I would recommend this to anyone and hope to return in the near future.

7- What was your favorite memory of this trip?
My local ABV Coordinator was beyond helpful. The home where we stayed was safe, well-kept, and offered a very "homey" feel while traveling. They were able to offer assistance in any area we needed. Could not have asked for a better situation.

8- How was the ABV USA support prior traveling?
The people I met during my time was definitely my highlight. I have so many memories shared with other volunteers as well as the house sisters. Traveling to Nepal brought such a different perspective and aspect to life that I never had before. Too many great memories and experiences to pick just one!

9 – Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers?
The support was fine, I did not require much assistance prior to traveling.
