For those interested in working with animals, or those already working in this field of study, this program allows you to volunteer at an animal shelters in San Jose.   With an onslaught of street animals (dogs and cats) the city is doing what it can to benefit these animals through shelters, education and outreach.   You'll join a local team of people working to make the world safe and more humane for all living creatures. You'll make the jobs of everyone working for animals a little easier by lending a hand and spreading the message of responsible pet ownership and animal protection.

General Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Help to clean the cages.
  • Help to feed the animals.
  • Help with the cleaning of the place.
  • Prepare food for the animals.
  • Help to walk the dogs if necessary.
  • Help to bath and pet the animals if necessary.

ONLY Friday, Saturday or Sunday arrival:  flight must arrive before 8pm (no exceptions) to San Jose. The orientation is same or next day.

Volunteer Opportunities: Domestic Animals Shelters

Overview

  • Project length: From 1 weeks to 6 weeks.
  • Arrival Airport: San Jose (SJO) Juan Santamaría International Airport.
  • Work Schedule: Monday to Fridays. Minimum 5 hours per day.
  • Requirements:  Intermediate Spanish, independent bus ride to/from project site.
  • Age Limits: Minimum 18 years or older for solo travelers.
  • Airlines: American, United, Delta, US Airways, Copa, Taca, Avianca, Spirit Airways.
  • Vaccinations: Routine Vac, Hep-A and Typhoid wwwnc.cdc.gov/

Inclusions

  • Accommodation: Host Families.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
  • Laundry: Once a week.
  • Internet: available in some host families and projects
  • Arrival: Airport (SJO) meet and greet by ABV Staff and Airport transfer on arrival to San Jose
  • Orientation: Orientation upon arrival.
  • Support: Full time in-country ABV Coordinator.  24/7 emergency contact number.
  • Departure: Transfer back to the airport at the end of the program.

Not included:

  • Flights. Entry Visa. Departure taxes. Vaccinations. Local Transportation. Travel & Health Insurance. Internet (Only available in some host families and projects). Any extra activities and excursions or tours not described on the planned itinerary.

WHAT DO MY FEES PAY FOR?

When you join an A Broader View program your financial contribution supports the hundreds of needy communities where our volunteer programs are based.  Donations are helping to stimulate the local economies with coordinator and hosting jobs, with new constructions at local school and orphanage, with much needed medical supplies to under served hospitals and clinics. 

ABV works tirelessly year round to support our volunteers, and also to serve the local communities where we are based.  As a tax exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit charity organization we receive 100% of our funding from our volunteers' program fee donations.
