Volunteer Abroad in New Delhi India: India’s natural wonders run the gamut from deserts to jungles to snowy Himalayan peaks. While the south offers beautiful beaches, the north is rich in natural parks and monuments. Our volunteer placements are located in Greater Noida, outside of New Delhi. This city is a treasure trove of imperial Mughal monuments, bustling urban villages and British Raj-era avenues.
Although India has one of the world's fastest-growing economies; the country still suffers from very high levels of poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition and a large growing cases of HIV/Aids. The status of rural woman and children in India need attention. According to the Minister of State for Women and Child Development, almost 40 % of malnourished children under the age of five years across the world are from India. Many children are denied even their basic rights of food, clothing and shelter. At least eighteen million children live or work on the streets of urban India. Our volunteer programs allow you to assist these children by providing them your love, attention and support.
We offer the following programs in New Delhi:
Program Length: From 1 to 12 weeks |
A large number of poor and disadvantaged children without homes are given refuge in orphanages and shelter homes being run by various non government organizations throughout India. These are distressed children who come from difficult circumstances that detach them from the joys of childhood. These orphans require love, care, affection warmth and education. Volunteers working in our ‘Help The Orphans' program in India will provide support to the underprivileged and uncared for children to alleviate their suffering by helping them live a dignified life. We do this by supporting the work of local community organizations in New Delhi. Orphans are deprived of many opportunities necessary for their development. Volunteers can help them fill this void in their lives by assisting the staff in the orphanage in organizing educational tours ,playing indoor and outdoor games ,teaching them English ,giving them basic computer knowledge and educate the young kids in a play way method. Volunteers can give tips to the kids about personal hygiene and help them in keeping their premises spic and span. They also help the children with their homework and prepare them for school. Your little help can be of great significance for these children, helping to make their present secure and future promising. Spend time with them. Receive their warmth and affection. Tell them stories. Share their dreams. Working in an orphanage is a truly fulfilling and enriching experience.
There are about 100 million street children in India who do not attend any school and spend most of their time on the streets. In Delhi, the capital city, it is estimated that there are close to 1, 75,000 street children of which 7-10 % are runaways. In fact there are more than 2500 children who live in and around New Delhi Railway Station. They can be seen scavenging the rubbish heap for a meal , sleeping between the tracks , often beaten and sexually abused , falling prey to drug peddlers , pimps and child traffickers . There is so much missing from their lives - food, security, health, love & education and a place to play sleep and dream. Volunteers can bring smile on the faces of these disadvantaged street children by helping to create an environment conducive for their holistic development in order to enable them become a part of mainstream society . Volunteers can work at the contact points, being run by various organizations, which serve as day care centers for these street children in India. They can assist in providing love, care, basic literacy, recreation and most importantly spend time and shower affection on them. It can make a world of difference to their lives. We work with local organizations who have earned national acclaim in doing work towards helping the street children in India.

India is a fast developing country where financial inequalities are widespread and affect the daily lives of the people. It's a land where people come from abroad for having specialized surgeries and other medical treatments. Rich Indians have access to world-class healthcare whereas on the other hand a vast number of people are deprived of basic healthcare facilities, more so in poverty stricken rural areas. Even urban areas reflect the glaring gaps in access to healthcare in different strata's of society.
Volunteer support in the field of healthcare can be of tremendous value. They can work in hospitals, small clinics, old age homes, orphanages and shelter homes to assist the staff in the treatment of patients. They can educate and guide these disadvantaged people about sanitation, hygiene, nutrition and provide first aid to people with small injuries.
Students studying medicine, nurses and doctors are preferred for health programs because of the special skills required for the same. Pre-medical students welcome in the HIV/Aids programs which are supporting prevention, education and information.
India has the largest number of cases of HIV / AIDS in the world. It can be attributed to lack of education and abject poverty in certain areas of country.
