  • Peru - Ayacucho: Elderly Care Home

    As in many communities, the elderly are among the most vulnerable population, many abused or neglected by their family.  Volunteering helps to improve the health and sense of dignity among the residents.  You will provided welcome companionship, support and love. 

    This Home, run by a religious organization,  accommodates 120 full time residents.  Although the local staff do all they can to care, provide food and love, there is such a need for more help! 

  • Peru - Ayacucho: Kindergartens

    If you are seeking to gain professional teaching experience, or planning a career in early childhood development, or simply interested in supporting an educational project, consider volunteering in a classroom with Young students.

    Young children whose families face significant economic challenges often do not receive the support, attention, and education they need to thrive.   The local kindergarten is not only a center of education, it is a safe haven and provides nourishment to the kids.   Each class room has about 40 children between the ages of 4 to 6 years old.  Volunteers are welcome and needed as an extra set of hands.   Volunteers help teachers doing their ordinary activities like drawing, coloring, singing and playing, and arranging educational games.

    Spanish speaking volunteers are preferred.  Language Immersion lessons can be arranged in the afternoon.

    Many times children with special needs cannot be cared for at home, or are abandoned by their parents at birth.  Special needs children, living in a care center, rely soley on their caregivers for every basic need.

    It is never too late to learn a language.   What better way than to be 100% immerse?  You're forced to think in another language, think as the locals do, and truly grasp what it means to be someone that lives in that particular area!

    Delve into a new language. This is a great opportunity to take Spanish lessons while being part of a community project in Ayacucho. Be fully immersed in Peruvian culture, learn Spanish, live with a local host family, all the while contributing to a community led program. Spanish lessons are generally 20 hours per week.  The rest of your time will be dedicated to your volunteer project.

    Public health clinics are located in different neighborhoods of the city.  These clinics provide vital health services such as check ups, vaccinations, dental, first aid office, laboratory, babies’ delivery area, emergency area, etc.  Volunteer work may include taking vitals, attending rounds, charting patients, giving injections, providing general health checks, cleaning wounds, removing sutures, assisting in deliveries, doing home visits, participating in vaccination campaigns and so on.
