  1. How was the local ABV coordinator and the support provided in-country?

The local ABV coordinator was very helpful. They answered any and all questions we had about the project. They accommodated all our requests. They overall were very attentive and supportive.

 

  1. What was the most surprising thing you experienced?

The most surprising thing I experienced was how similar the teen moms were to me. Despite cultural differences and lifestyle differences, they were still teenage girls just like me.

 

  1. What was most difficult to experience?

The most difficult thing to experience was realizing how many privileges I have in my life that others do not possess.

  1. Any tips for future volunteers? (clothing, travel, personal items, donations, etc. ?

I would simply recommend to maintain an open mind during your volunteering so that you are able to learn the most and grow the most from your experience.

Don´t be shy – put yourself “out there”.
Be respectful
Be helpful – don´t just sit around

My experience with ABV was enjoyable. I was able to experience a culture other than my own while opening my eyes to the reality that millions of people live in.

Very safe environment, clean accommodation, tasty meals, polite hosts who genuinely cared about their guests.

 

  1. What was your favorite memory of this trip?

Talking with the teen mothers and getting to know what their “everyday lifes” were like.

  1. How was the ABV USA support prior to travelling?

Good communication, answered all questions, helpful and responded in a timely fashion.
