For those of you who do not know me well, I am Lexus. I will be a sophomore at Hamline University (in St.Paul, Minnesota) this upcoming year; pre-med with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Spanish. This summer, I am working in Hamline's Chemistry Department doing paid research on a protein that is linked to Alzheimers. When I am not working 9 to 5 at Hamline, people can normally catch me working at my other job, Dairy Queen. And I am currently in the process of becoming a volunteer at United Hospital in St.Paul and I will start once my Summer research is over. During the school year I am involved in Student Alumni Board, HIPAL (a natural science networking club), play varsity Lacrosse, I manage the women's Hockey team, and TA general chemistry.
Recently I was accepted to go to North Quito, Ecuador and volunteer in Hospitals for their Pre-medical mission trip program. I will be working 40 hours a week, from January 2 to 31st 2017. This is a wonderful opportunity for me to volunteer and give back to those in need of medical attention. It is also a great way to get hands on experience working in a hospital. I chose to apply to Quito, Ecuador because I knew that they spoke Spanish, and with pursuing a minor in Spanish, this will immerse me in the culture which is a great segue to be as fluent as possible.
Now, I know that $2000 seems like a pricey tag, but this includes the program price, and some of the plane ticket. It is very hard for my to make all of this myself because I have to pay my own rent, car and phone payments, groceries, gas, on top of being a full time student having 4 classes and 4 labs this coming semester. Any amount helps, and since this is for a non-profit volunteer service, your donation can be a tax write off.
Thank you for your consideration,
