1- How was the local ABV Coordinator and the support provided in-country?
Our coordinator and her support was amazing. They helped us with every step and would not hesitate to answer any questions or problems we had. I am very pleased with our visit and love being here wit our coordinator and family.
2- What was the most surprising thing you experienced?
The most surprising thing that I experienced was how polite everyone was. It didn't matter if you messed up or broke something they just laughed it off and went on. They are very patience and living towards everyone.
3- What was most difficult to experience?
The most difficult thing for me was to speak Spanish. It was difficult for me but everyone was very patient with me and helped me learn a lot while I was here.
4- Any tips for future volunteers… (Clothing, travel, personal items, donations)
Any volunteers that are coming to Ecuador I recommend that you be patient, and take your time. In America we try to keep ahold of time and rush to do everything, but here they take their time and do not get upset if you are late for something. It really is a life changing experience so come with an open mind and a willingness to learn new things.
5.1-Other things volunteers should know:
a. bring bug spray preferably the wipe on kind for your skin
b. Bring no bigger bills than 20's, not everywhere can break a 20 but a lot of places can, most taxis are very cheap but if you plan on buying souvenirs might want to bring some more money.
6- How would you describe your accommodation, meals, security (e: host family, on-site, shared)
Our stay here was amazing. The meals were very good and healthy. The security is very good a guard 24/7 is outside. The project I worked at was amazing it was a life changing experience and I have learned so many things.
7- What was your favorite memory of this trip?
My favorite memory would be sitting at the table with the family and talking about our day and telling stories with all the other ABV volunteers.
9- How was the ABV USA support prior traveling?
Very good they told us everything we needed to do and prepare for our trip to Ecuador.
10 – Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers?
Yes, I would encourage any volunteer to come to Ecuador and help. I love helping people and this is my first time doing something like this and am going to do it again next year for sure.
