Volunteer Review Alexandra Volunteering in La Serena Chile Orphanage

Volunteer Name: Alexandra Box
Project Location: La Serena Chile
Volunteered At: Orphanage Program

What was your favorite memory of this trip?
Playing on the slide with 3 of the toddlers. They were playing with a ball and rolling it down to each other. It was lovely to see this practice and development of social skills.

What were you surprised about? There were not more volunteers, it was just me and Nicole for a few days.

What was difficult for your to experience? Trying to manage toddler behavior in one big group. Smaller groups of 3-4 at a time were easier to manage.

Any tips for future volunteers… (clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc)
Sunblock in the summer! Don’t go a day without wearing it and reapply during the day.

Personal Paragraph (ABV Program Testimonial):
The staff at the orphanage work so hard to offer a caring, clean and engaging environment for these sweet souls. An insight I am appreciative of.

How would you describe your host/accommodations? Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers? Second to none! Wilma went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable in every capacity. I felt quite spoiled. Enjoying her delicious and nutritious food which gave me the energy to go off and see the sites after a days work at the orphanage.
