Good time here. Make sure the clinic staff knows what to do with us. Overall wonderful experience.
I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to volunteer in Honduras. Everyone in the ABV Program really wants you to have the best experience possible. This program also allowed me to gain so much more hands-on experience than I would have been able to get in the U.S. I was able to take vital signs and assist in wound cleaning. I also observed C-sections and many other surgeries. All of the doctors were welcoming and thankful for our help. They were also willing to explain what they were doing and why. There is no doubt that I would recommend this program to anyone who is thinking about pursuing a career in the health care field.
Being an international volunteer, especially for a short period of time, can be challenging. But it is so worth it. These kids, this place and this experience will stay with me long after I leave. I want to do right by these kids and this place and be an advocate and spread that joy and kindness that I found to be overflowing here in Belize, even if I physically can’t be here, the trip was just the beginning there is much more to do.
So far this has been an incredible experience and I hope to be able to return to Belize, specifically the orphanage again some day.
My host family is nice. The host mother is good at cooking. My host family didn´t go inside of my room. On site, I put my backpack at the office but the door is always open.
Overall the trip was very memorable. I got to watch a ton of endoscopies, discussion and shadowing the doctor’s at the hospital, but there were quite s few volunteers and students working at the hospital at that time and it was bit hard at that time but I’m glad I came and stayed with a host family so that I could really immerse myself in the culture. There are tons of options for sightseeing, trekking, and traveling and I very much enjoyed the experience.
My perspective on life, as well as my heart, will never be the same after I return to the U.S. I will hold these children and this experience in me in everything I do. From choices I make to engagement in my community to a lifelong drive to serve the orphanage through volunteers and donations, this experience has molded me and will be a part of how I live daily.
The coordinator & his team fabulous.
I didn’t know what to expect when I came to Belize. But I have been pleasantly surprised by the extremely friendly people. The accommodations at the orphanage, and the beautiful climate. The kids are great and I’m so happy that I come and get the chance to get to know them.
I had amazing time. I met so many amazing people and made a new great friend Lisa. Thank you so much for this opportunity.
This program is very well set up. I feel like we were able to impact the women in different ways. We built great relationships with the women even though smiling and dancing. The connection was amazing. My experience as a writer was so thoughtful, cultural and filled with personal growth.
The Belize break out is unique as we provide “service” by simply begin here, spending time with the children, learning a new culture, and understanding that this way of life is just a full, valid and joyful as my own.
